Following the elections in May 2021, there was no elected Executive Committee Chair. Subsequently, interim measures were taken. Elizabeth Robinson was elected Chair of the Training Committee and kindly agreed to take on a dual role for an interim period. It is now time to elect the Chair person who take over from her and head up the Executive Committee going forward. See bios below then click on the pic to vote.
YOUR CANDIDATES
CANDIDATE 1 - HAZEL MAXWELL-PAYNE
My name is HAZEL MAXWELL-PAYNE and currently I work as Clinical Director for Devon Primary Care Counselling Service. I also work for the Royal Marines Association – The Royal Marines Charity as National Clinical Case Manager, for the Veteran Referral Mental Health Pathway. I also have my own Private Practice.
I have worked over the last 26 years in the NHS as a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor In Primary Care and as a Clinical Supervisor since 2003. I trained as an Integrative Therapist going onto complete my Family and Systemic Therapy Training. Thereafter I focused on my CBT training with Oxford Including Trauma Focussed CBT. I completed my Diploma in Supervision in 2003 whilst managing our NHS Staff Support and Counselling Service here in Devon.
In 2006 with the advent of IAPT just around the corner I led my team to training in both IPT with Roslyn Law and EMDR with Sandi Richman. In 2011 I completed my IPT Supervisors Training. In 2013 I completed the Exeter Model Couple Therapy for Depression with Professor Janet Reibstein and Professor Hannah Sherbersky at Exeter University where; I went on to become one the Course Supervisors.
I am passionate about IPT, I am an IPT Supervisor and currently Supervise Nationally. I have commissioned 3 IPT Courses in Devon including attendees from Somerset with Liz Robinson meaning we have an additional 15-20 IPT Therapist here in the Southwest. I believe we need more IPT therapist, and I would like to see the training more accessible to Therapists outside of IAPT, so more people can benefit from IPT. I would like to see IPT UK marketing and promoting itself more widely and increasing raising the awareness in not only Primary Care of IPT but in other fields too.
After working for a year with Veteran Royal Marines I have come to realise how as a client group they don’t have access generally to IPT across the country. The transition from life as a Royal Marine to life as a Civilian is extremely difficult. This leads to moderate to severe depression and impacts hugely on Interpersonal Relationships, Social Life, Work etc. Promoting IPT within the Veteran Mental Health Charities, NHS Operation Courage Veteran Mental Health Complex Treatment Service I feel would be a huge advantage to Veterans and I would like us to consider ways we can do this over the next two years.
I would also like to see IPT for PTSD being promoted more for veterans and a research project in this country to evidence the efficacy and benefits of IPT for PTSD. Living with PTSD and Complex PTSD is incredibly difficult, and I believe many Veterans become very depressed as a result. If we can help by providing IPT to Veterans and their families, this could be a very worthwhile programme for IPT UK.
So, my aim is to raise awareness for this client group as well as men in general. Ensuring IPT is accessible to this client group and in particular raising awareness of the culture of the Military and what the challenges are in working with this client group.
I want to see IPT gain more IPT Therapists outside of IAPT. I hope you will come with me and promote IPT to a wider population.
