We have two practitioner options for people to choose from:
Level A is the 5-day standard IPT course which covers the essential knowledge and research base of IPT with a focus on clinical practice. It covers the theory and application of IPT including principles of assessment, diagnosis and treatment. This course aims to equip clinicians with an understanding of the IPT model and its application, and provides the first stage of working to be an IPT UK practitioner. Supervision is not currently provided as part of this course; therefore, following attendance, those wishing to become IPT practitioners are required to undertake supervision with an accredited IPT UK supervisor by their own arrangement. This course costs £1125 (supervision not included).
Level B is designed to support students in reaching IPT practitioner status. It encompasses the 5-day accredited IPT training, which is shared teaching with Level A students, and two further days of teaching to consolidate practical application, alongside supervised practice of 4 cases. It is most appropriate for people who want to become an IPT practitioner but don’t have access to an IPT UK accredited supervisor locally, or those who have a health board supervisor in place but feel they would benefit from the added element of peer support and agreement of protected time from line manager to support faster accreditation process. On completion of the course, students may submit their assessment portfolio to IPT UK for individual accreditation. This course costs £2245 (supervision not included). The University will assist in finding an appropriate IPT UK accredited supervisor for candidates, but we cannot guarantee it, and fees associated with private supervision will be £2500 on top of course fees.
Both of the above courses are credit-baring courses and can be used to build up credit as part of an MSc in Psychological Therapies, with the potential of further study within the University of Edinburgh. For further details please email: msc.therapies@ed.ac.uk
