In the Aftermath of the Pandemic. IPT for Anxiety, Depression, and PTSD

Nearly 300 IPT UK members attended the IPT UK online national meeting hosted by Dr Liz Robinson and the North East Region, to discuss IPT in the aftermath of the COVID 19 pandemic. The guest speaker was Professor John Markowitz, who has recently written a book on the subject matter. John is well known to most IPT practitioners for his integral efforts to promote IPT globally over many years. He is based in New York and got up especially early to speak at the conference! IPT UK is honoured and delighted that he was our special guest.

The event (in our humble opinion) was fantastic! Despite being at the mercy of Zoom, glitches were overcome, and the day ran pretty well. Many IPT UK members were pro-active in tweeting about the meeting, especially citing John’s evocative quote above, which soon became the affirmation of the day.

Liz Robinson welcomed everyone to the event giving thanks to the outgoing Executive Committee and welcoming the new incumbents. We watched video updates and had the chance to socialise in the break rooms on and off throughout the day. There was an excellent Q&A with John, who covered a variety of topics within the IPT space, including the effects of social media, bereavement, poc, combining therapies, and much more.

The event ended with attendees dipping in and out of social break out rooms. There was much chatter and quite a bit of alcohol!

Thanks to everyone who attended the event – it was wonderful to see you. With our mission going forward to build our IPT UK community, we would encourage you all to visit the Member's Area of the website regularly for news, updates, resources, information, and to stay connected…

Professor John Markowitz has generously declined a fee and requested that we make a donation to the ISIPT (International Society of IPT). We are extremely happy to do this as we are keen to strengthen the bond between our two organisations wherever possible.
