This year the IPT UK National Meeting will be a face to face meeting in the De Limesi Suite at the beautiful Crowne Plaza hotel in Solihull. Following IPT UK business, most of the day will be a CPD event provided by the West Midlands region - led by Dr Marie Wardle, on the topic of Lifestyle Medicine in IPT. (SEE BELOW)

LIFESTYLE MEDICINE IN CLINICAL PRACTICE

IPT West Midlands are your hosts for the next National Meeting on Friday the 8th November at the Crowne Plaza, Solihull, West Midlands. We are pleased to be offering an exciting new area in medicine and to explore how Lifestyle Medicine relates to your clinical work in IPT. Many of our clients who present with depression also have other long-term conditions. Lifestyle Medicine is a new medical discipline that integrates lifestyle practices into conventional medicine to lower the risk for chronic disease, treating lifestyle causes. It is an evidence-based approach to prevent, treat and sometimes reverse lifestyle related chronic diseases and disorders.
The principles of Lifestyle Medicine are underpinned by the 6 pillars that the British Society for Lifestyle Medicine describe as:
The NHS long-term plan is to move towards prevention rather than treatment. Where we are currently is not sustainable with the demand on services and waiting times for treatment increasing. Lifestyle Medicine looks at how modifiable behavioural changes can be sustained through techniques to prevent someone developing a disease, improve a prognosis and sometimes reverse it.

Dr Ellen Fallows is the vice-president for the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine (BSLM) and a GP with experience in treatment and reversal of long-term conditions through supported lifestyle change. She has a post-graduate diploma in obesity and weight management, is board certified in Lifestyle Medicine and has a certificate in human nutrition. She works with the Type-2 Diabetes Remission Programme (NHS LCD Pilot) in Birmingham and has set-up group clinics to support patients with lifestyle changes.

As Vice-President of The British Society of Lifestyle Medicine she has set-up their Learning Academy; writing “Lifestyle Medicine: A Foundation Course” and collaborated on the Microbiome Science Course.
Championing healthcare policy that supports people to live healthy lives, she has worked with NHS England, the RCGP and Department of Health and Social Care on issues around person-centred care and weight management. She teaches lifestyle medicine at Oxford University and GP training and trainer events.

Michelle Turner from Sheffield Hallam University, Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre, and member of the International Society for Lifestyle Medicine, will be presenting on physical activity for the management and prevention of long-term conditions.
Angeline Hennessy-Thompson will be presenting on Unlocking a personalised prescription in IPT.
